Monument

A monument is a physical object that marks a corner or line of a survey, either natural, such as a tree or stream, or artificial, such as an iron rod or concrete marker. Monuments called for in a description generally control over the stated bearings and distances when they conflict, because the monument marks where the corner actually is.
